1. with double augm. ἠνωρθώκει v.l. in Lib. 1039: the double augm. is common in the compd. ἐπανορθόω: — set up again, restore, rebuild, τὸν νηόν Hdt. 1.19; τὸ τεῖχος 7.208; τὸ στρατόπεδον Th. 6.88, etc.; τὸ σῶμά τινος E. Ba. 364: Med., ἀνορθοῦσθαι τὰ πίπτοντα τῶν οἰκοδομημάτων have them rebuilt, Arist. Pol. 1322b20.

2. restore to health or well being. πόλιν S. OT 46: τινά Pl. Lg. 919d.

3. set straight again, set right, correct, τινά E. Supp. 1228; τὰ ἀλλότρια κακά Pl. R. 346e.

ἀνορθόω, ἀνόρθω: future ἀνορθώσω; 1 aorist ἀνωρθωσα; 1 aorist passive ἀνωρθωθην (Luke 13:13; without the augment ἀνορθωθην L T Tr; cf. (WHs Appendix, p. 161); Buttmann, 34 (30); (Winer's Grammar, 73) (70));

1. to set up, make erect: a crooked person, Luke 13:13 (she was made straight, stood erect); drooping hands and relaxed knees (to raise them up by restoring their strength), Hebrews 12:12.

2. to rear again, build anew: ἀκηνην, Acts 15:16 (Herodotus 1, 19 τόν νηον ... τόν ἐνέπρησαν; 8, 140; Xenophon, Hell. 4, 8, 12, etc.; in various senses in the Sept.).

ἀνορθόω occurs in the fragmentary P Lips I. 119 recto.3 (A.D. 274) τ ]ῶν ἀμαρτιω ̣̑[ν ] τ ̣ὰς πονηρίας συνεχῶ [ς ἀ ]νορθουμένων. For the sense of ";rear again,"; as Acts 15:16, cf. OGIS 710.4 (ii/A.D.) τὸ π [ρ ]οπύλα [ιον ] χρόνῳ [διαφθαρὲ ]ν [ ]νώρθωσεν ἐκ τοῦ ἰδίου Ἀπολλώνιος ἐπ᾽ ἀγαθῶι. The noun occurs in P Ryl II. 157.13 (A.D. 135) ἔσται δε ̣, ἡ ἀνόρθωσις τῶν [νῦν ἀποκαθι ]στανομένων κοινῶν [τ ]ει ̣χ ̣ω ̣̑[ν ] α ̣̓[πὸ κ ]ο ̣ι ̣νῶν λ [η ]μ ̣μ ̣α ̣τ ̣ων ";the restoration of the common walls"; (Edd.).
