2. not within the province of thought, νοήματα ὄντα ἀνόητα εἶναι Pl. Prm. 132c; not the object of thought, unthinkable, Plot. 5.3.6 and 10. Adv. -τως without discursive thought, of vision, βλέψαι ἀ. Id. 6.7.16.

2. generally active, not understanding, unwise, foolish: Romans 1:14 (opposed to σοφοί); Luke 24:25; Galatians 3:1, 3; Titus 3:3. ἐπιθυμίαι ἀνόητοι, 1 Timothy 6:9. (Proverbs 17:28; Psalm 48:13 (); and often in Attic writings; (cf. Trench, § lxxv.; Ellicott on Galatians 3:1; Schmidt, chapter 147 § 20).)

The adv. is supplied by the editors in the Hadrian letter, P Fay 19.4 (ii/A.D.), οὔτε ἀνοή ]τως ἀπαλλάσσομαι τοῦ βίο [υ ]. It is current in MGr, meaning ";unreasonable"; (Thumb).
