Vocabulary of the Greek NT

a word found in the LXX to denote a measure = 1½ modii, or nearly three English gallons (Matthew 13:33, Luke 13:21 : Jos. Antt. IX. 85 (= ix. 4. 5)). Instead of connecting the word with the Aram. סָאתָא, Otto points to a root-form * σάτιον, corresponding to the Coptic saidion, ";a wine-measure of Sais"; : see Archiv iii. p. 448.
