go up, or mount besides, l. c.; of water-birds, π. πρὸς τὰς πέτρας Arist. HA 617a26; π. πρὸς τὸ ὄρθιον D.C. 39.45; rise higher, as a swollen river, Plb. 3.72.4; πόλις προσαναβαίνουσα lying on a mountain side, Poll. 9.20: metaph., π. τῷ Ῥωμύλῳ go back as far as R., Plu. Thes. 1 .

Thayer's Expanded Definition

προσαναβαίνω: 2 aorist imperative 2 person singular προσανάβηθι; to go up farther: with ἀνώτερον added, Luke 14:10 (A. V. go up higher; others regard the προς( as adding the suggestion of 'motion to' the place where the host stands: 'come up higher' (cf. Proverbs 25:7). Xenophon, Aristotle, others.)

";wing,"; is found several times in an oracle of iv/iii B.C., Syll 801 (= .3 1167).1–.5, dealing with the auspices drawn from the flight of birds—ἢν ἐπάρει τὴν εὐώνυμον (δεξιὴν) πτέρυγα. In a food-account, P Oxy IV. 738.10 (c. A.D. 1), the editors translate πτέρυγες β ̄, ";2 snipe (?)."; MGr φτερούγα. For πτερόω in late Greek of spreading the oars or sails of a ship like wings, cf. Psaltes Gr. p. 323.
