Vocabulary of the Greek NT

With Titus 1:11 οἵτινες ὅλους οἴκους ἀνατρέπουσιν διδάσκοντες ἃ μὴ δεῖ αἰσχροῦ κέρδους χάριν, we may compare P Par 63ix. 35 (ii/B.C.) τῆς πατρικῆς οἰκίας. . . ἔτι ἔνπροσθεν ἄρδην [ ]νατετραμμένης δι᾽ ἀσ [ω ]τίας. The literal meaning is found in P Oxy I. 69.2 (A.D. 190) φέρουσαν εἰς δημοσίαν ῥύμην ἀνατρέψαντας, ";they broke down (a door) leading into the public street,"; and Syll 891.9 (ii/A.D.) εἰς γῆν ἀνατρέψει : the inscription quotes the LXX, but is pagan. For the subst. see P Oxy VI. 902.11 (c. A.D. 465) εἰς τελείαν γὰρ ἀνατροπὴν. . . περιέστην, ";I have been reduced to complete ruin"; (Edd.).
