Winers Grammar, 230 (215f); Buttmann, § 131, 11); Luke 11:5; κατά τό μεσονύκτιον, about midnight, Acts 16:25; μέχρι μεσονυκτίου, until midnight, Acts 20:7. For the epistolary phrase μνείαν ποιεῖσθαι, which is used by Paul in 1 Thessalonians 1:2, Romans 1:10, Ephesians 1:16, Philemon 1:4, cf. the letter of Isias to her husband, who was at the time ‘in retreat’ in the Serapeum at Memphis, P Lond 42.6 (B.C. 168) (=1. p. 30, Selections, p. 9) οἱ ἐν οἴκωι πάντες <σοῦ διαπαντὸς μνείαν ποιούμενοι >, and especially, in connexion with prayer, as in the Pauline passages, BGU II. 632.5 (ii/A.D.) μνι ̣αν σου ποιούμενος παρὰ τοῖς [ἐν ]θάδε θεοῖς ἐκομισάμην [ ]ν ̣ ἐπι [σ ]τόλιον κτλ. and Kaibel 983.2 ff. (B.C. 79)—

Δημήτριος ἥκω πρὸς μεγάλην Ἶσιν θεάν,

μνείαν ἐπ᾽ ἀγαθῶι τῶν γονέων ποιούμενος

καὶ τῶν ἀδελφῶν καὶ φίλων μου κατ᾽ ὄνομα.

Other exx. of the phrase from the inscrr. are Syll 929 (=.3685).79 ὑπ [ ]ρ χώρας μόνον ἐφαίνοντο μνείαν πεποιημένοι, Priene 50.10 ὅπως οὖν καὶ ὁ δῆμος φαίνηται μνείαν ποιούμενος τῶν καλῶν καὶ ἀγαθῶν ἀνδρῶν, and similarly Magn 90.16—all ii/B.C. On the form μνεία for the older μνηία see Mayser Gr. p. 127.
