impf. θραύεσκον Orph. L. 140: fut. -σω Ar. Av. 466: aor. 1 ἔθραυσα S. El. 745, E. HF 779 (lyr.): — Pass., fut. θραυσθήσομαι Gal. 10.624: aor. ἐθραύσθην (v. infr.), (κατ-) Pl. Ti. 56e: pf. τέθραυσμαι Thphr. Sens. 11, (συν-) X. Ages. 2.14, (παρα-) Pl. Lg. 757e (v.l. -τεθραυμένον): —
I break in pieces, shatter, Simon. 57, A. Pers. 196, 416, Tim. Pers. 99, etc.; θ. σάρκας E. Hipp. 1239: — Pass., θραυομένης τῆς πέτρης flying into pieces, Hdt. 1.174; σίδηρον θραυσθέντα καὶ ῥαγέντα S. Ant. 476; πτερὰ θραύονται have their wings broken, Pl. Phdr. 248b.

Prose.
θραύω: perfect passive participle τεθραυσμένος; from (Herodotus), Aeschylus down, to break, break in pieces, shatter, smite through (Exodus 15:6; Numbers 24:17, etc.; 2 Macc. 15:16): τεθραύσμενοι, broken by calamity (A. V. bruised), Luke 4:18 (19) from Isaiah 58:6 for רְצוּצִים. (Synonym: see ῤήγνυμι.)

For the perf. part. pass. of this verb, which is found in Luke 4:18 (from LXX), cf. Syll 226.188 (iii/B.C.) τ ]εθραυσμένος : in ib. 588.27 (c. B.C. 180) we have ποτήρια παντοδαπὰ τεθραυμένα. See also for the verb ib. 891.8 (ii/A.D.) ἢ αἰκίσεται ἢ θραύσει ἤ τι μέρος ἢ σύμπαν, and Kaibel 1003, an inscr. on the left leg of Memnon, referring to the breaking of the stone by Cambyses—
ἔθραυσε Καμβύσης με τόνδε τὸν λίθον.
The verb is common in Vett. Val. with reference to the ";crushing"; of the power of evil etc., e.g. p. 276.7 θραύεται δὲ τὸ φαῦλον ὑπὸ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ παρηγορούμενον, cf. Judith 9:10, and the subst. θραῦσμα in ib. 7.9. The verbal θραυστός occurs in an epigram of early i/B.C., P Tebt I. 3.4 θαυστά (l. θραυστά) unfortunately in a broken context.
