spring upon, so as to attack, c. dat., Ἀστεροπαίῳ ἐπᾶλτο Il. 21.140, cf. 13.643; Τρώεσσιν ἐπάλμενος 11.489, etc.; ἐπάλμενος ὀξέϊ δουρί ib. 421, cf. Od. 14.220: without hostile sense, c. gen., ἵππων ἐπιάλμενος having leaped upon the chariot, Il. 7.15; κύσσε.. μιν.. ἐπιάλμενος Od. 24.320; of fame, ἐς Αἰθίοπας ἐπᾶλτο Pi.
