The force of this rare verb, as in Philippians 2:19, comes out well in a letter from a wife to her husband, BGU IV. 1097.15 (time of Claudius or Nero) ἐ ]γὼ γὰρ οὐ co ovligwrw/( avlla. euvyucο ̣ῦσα πα [ρα ]μένω. It is found, instead of the usual χαίρειν, in the salutation of a letter of condolence, P Oxy I. 115.1 (ii/A.D.) (= Selections, p. 96) Εἰρήνη Ταοννώφρει καὶ Φίλωνι εὐψυχεῖν. See also Hermas Vis. i. iii 2 σὺ μόνον μὴ ῥᾳθυμήσῃς, ἀλλὰ εὐψύχει καὶ ἰσχυροποίει σου τὸν οἶκον. Εὐψύχει is very common in sepulchral inscrr., as Preisigke 46 Νίγερ μαχαιροφόρος, εὐψύχι, (ἐτῶν) ξ ̄. For the subst. see Syll 686.30 (ii/A.D.) ἐπὶ τοσοῦτον δὲ καὶ ἀρετῆς καὶ εὐψυχίας ἦλθεν.
