εὔχρηστος, εὔχρηστον (εὖ and χράομαι), easy to make use of, useful: with the dative of person 2 Timothy 2:21; opposed to ἄχρηστος, Philemon 1:11; εἰς τί, for a thing, 2 Timothy 4:11. (Diodorus 5, 40; Wis. 13:13; πρός τί, Xenophon, mem. 3, 8, 5.)

For εὔχρηστος with the dat. of pers. (2 Timothy 2:21), cf. P Petr III. 53 (n).5 Πέτωυς, ὃν οὐδὲ σὺ ἀγνοεῖς εὔχρηστον ὄντα τοῖς ἐν τῶι νομῶι, ἀπέσταλται εἰς Ἀλεξανδρείαν, ";Petous, who, as you know very well, is of great value to those in the nome, was sent to Alexandria"; (Ed.), Priene 102.5 (c. B.C. 100) προ [γ ]όν [ων δὲ ὄντα γεγ ]ενημένων εὐχρήστων κ ̣οιν ̣ ̣ι ̣ [τ ]ε ̣ τ ̣ω ̣̑[ι δήμ ]ωι καὶ κατ᾽ ἰδίαν ἑκάστω ̣ι τῶν π ̣[ολιτῶν, and for the comp. see PSI IV. 361.24 (B.C. 251–0) προθυμότερος ἔσται καί σοι εὐχρηστότερος. The constr. with εἰς is found in Cagnat IV. 818.23 where a certain C. Ageleius is honoured at Hierapolis for fiscal services he had rendered—εἰς χρίας κυρ [ια ]κὰς εὔχρηστο [ν ] γενόμενον. For the subst. see P Par 63.191 (B.C. 164) (= P Petr III. p. 35) ὅταν ὁρῶσιν ἀντικαταλλασσομένην αὐτοῖς τὴν εὐχρηστίαν, ";as soon as they see that the benefit will accrue to themselves also"; (Mahaffy), and for the verb = ";lend"; (cf. Lob. Phryn. p. 402) see P Oxy II. 241.30 (c. A.D. 98) πρός ται (l. τε) ἃς εὐχρήστη ̣σαν αὐτῷ κατὰ χιρόγραφον, ";in return for an accommodation in accordance with a note of hand"; (Edd.), ib. XII. 1473.26 (A.D. 201).
