ἐπικᾰλύπτ-ω,
I cover over, cover up, shroud, κακὸν δ' ἐπὶ κῶμα καλύπτει v.l. in Hes. Th. 798; of snow covering a track, X. Cyn. 8.1; ἐ. τὴν ἀπορίαν Pl. Chrm. 169d; τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς Sor. 1.106: — Pass., to be covered over, veiled, ἡ ἐπωνυμία ἐπικεκάλυπται Pl. Cra. 395b; ἐπικαλύπτεσθαι τὸν νοῦν πάθει ἢ ὕπνῳ is darkened, obscured, Arist. de An. 429a7.
II. put as a covering over, βλεφάρων φᾶρος E. HF 642 codd. (lyr.): — Pass., τῶν βλεφάρων -κεκαλυμμένων when the eyelids are drawn down, Arist. Sens. 437a25.
ἐπικαλύπτω: (1 aorist ἐπεκαλυφθην); to cover over: αἱ ἁμαρτίαι ἐπικαλυπτονται, are covered over so as not to come to view, i. e. are pardoned, Romans 4:7 from Psalm 31:1
