Pass. διέζωμαι IG 2.736 B 19, ib.11(2).161.35 (Delos, iii B.C.): — gird round, encircle, embrace, Gal. 14.715: metaph., τὸν ὅλον ἄνθρωπον διέζωσεν [ἡ ψυχή ] Diog.Oen. 39: — Med., undergird one's ship, App. BC 5.91; but usu. gird oneself with, διαζωσάμενοι τὸ τριβώνιον Luc. Hist.Conscr. 3: — Pass., διαζώννυσθαι ἐσθῆτα, ἀκινάκην, Id. Somn. 6, Anach. 6: abs., διεζωσμένοι wearing the διάζωμα 1, Th. 1.6 codd. διαζωννύω or διαζώννυμι: 1 aorist διέζωσα; 1 aorist middle διεζωσαμην; perfect passive preposition διεζωσμένος; to bind or gird all around (διά; this force of the preposition appears in the tropical use of the verb in Plutarch, Brut. 31, 2 ὡς δ' ἡ φλόξ ῥυεις καί διαζώσασα πανταχόθεν τήν πόλιν διελαμψε πολλή): ἑαυτόν, John 13:4; passive διαζωννυμαι τί to be girded: ᾧ (by attraction for ὁ (yet cf. Meyer)) ἥν διεζωσμένος, John 13:5; middle διαζωννυμαι τί, "to gird oneself with a thing, gird a thing around oneself: John 21:7; (Ezekiel 23:15 (Alex.). in Greek writings occasionally from Thucydides on). For this word, which is found ter in John’s Gospel (John 13:4-5; John 21:7), cf. IG II. 736 B.16 (B.C. 307). See also BCH x. (1886) p. 465.103 (B.C. 364) κλιμάκιον ξύλινον περικεχρυσωμένον ὄφεσιν ἀργυροῖς διεζωμένον, and ib. xiv. (1890) p. 405.35 (B.C. 279). For the subst. διάζωμα cf. BGU IV. 1188.7 (B.C. 15–4) τοῦ κατὰ τὴν κώμην ἀγομένου δημοσίο [υ ] δι ̣α ̣ζ ̣ώματος, where however the editor notes that the reading is not quite certain.
