Av. 191, X. Thomas Magister, Ritschl edition, p. 387, 13; Grotius as quoted in Trench, § 107:7; see τέλος, 2): φόρον, φόρους διδόναι, Καίσαρι, Luke 20:22; Luke 23:2 (1 Macc. 8:4, 7); ἀποδιδόναι, Romans 13:7; τέλειν, Romans 13:6.

tribute paid by a subject nation (cf. 1 Maccabees 10:33): φ . δοῦναι (1 Maccabees 8:4; 1 Maccabees 8:7), Luke 20:22; Luke 23:2; ἀποδοῦναι , Romans 13:7; τελεῖν , Romans 13:6 (Hdt., al.).†

";a cloak"; worn over the χιτών (Mat. 27:28; Mat. 27:31) : P Cairo Zen II. 59263.2 (B.C. 251) ἔγραψέν μοι Μαιανδρία ὅτι χλαμύδα αὐτὴν κελεύεις ἐξυφᾶναι, ";Maiandria wrote me that you are ordering her to weave a cloak,"; P Par 10.12 (B.C. 145) περὶ τὸ σῶμα χλαμύδα καὶ περίζωμα, P Oxy I. 123.19 (iii/iv A.D.) ἐκ ̣[ε ]λεύσθημεν γὰρ μετὰ τῶν χλαμύδων εἰσβῆναι, ";for the orders which we received were to wear cloaks when we entered"; (Edd.), with reference to an official function, and ib. X. 1288.24 (private account—iv/A.D.) χλαμύδος καὶ στιχάρ [ι ]ο ̣ν (= -ου) (τάλ.) ιζ ̄, ";for a short cloak and tunic 17 tal.";

The word occurs in the epitaph or a prematurely deceased youth, Kaibel 211 (Rom.)—

ἄρτι γὰρ ἐκ χ [λ ]αμύδος νεοπενθὴς ᾤχετ᾽ ἐς Ἅδα

ὀκτωκαιδεχέτης,

where the reference is to the cloak which the ephebi wore (see Herwerden, Lex. s.v.).
