to cut around (Hdt.), hence, to circumcise (Papyri τὰ αἰδοῖα , Hdt.) : Luke 1:59; Luke 2:21, John 7:22, Acts 7:8; Acts 15:5; Acts 16:3; Acts 21:21. Pass. and mid., to be circumcised, receive circumcision: Acts 15:1, 1 Corinthians 7:18, Galatians 2:3; Galatians 5:2-3; Galatians 6:12-13 Metaph. (cf. Deuteronomy 10:16, Jeremiah 4:4, al.), Colossians 2:11 (v. Deiss., BS, 151 f.; MM, xix).†

";whence"; : P Oxy II. 237viii. 33 (A.D. 186) δηλοῦντες πόθεν ἕκαστος τῶν ὑπαρχόντων καταβ ̣ε ̣βηκεν εἰς αὑτοὺς ἡ κτῆσ íε ýις, ";severally declaring the sources from which the property acquired has come into their possession"; (Edd.). For the enclitic ποθέν, cf. P Tebt II. 423.23 (early iii/A.D.) δή [λω ]σόν μοι ταχ ̣[έως ] ἵνα π ̣[έμ ]ψω π ̣ο ̣θ ̣ὲν αὐτοῖς μέτρ [α τιν ]̣α, ";tell me at once in order that I may send a few measures to them from somewhere"; (Edd.), and for πόθεν = ";how,"; see Mark 12:37, John 1:48; John 6:5 (Field Notes, p. 91).
