II intr., keep peace, live peaceably, Pl. Tht. 180b; πρός τινα D.S. 21.16; μετὰ πάντων Romans 12:18 : — Med., πρὸς τοὺς κρείττους εἰρηνεύεσθαι Arist. Rh. 1359b39, cf. OGI 199.1 (Adule); χώρα -ομένη ἐκ παλαιοῦ Plb. 5.8.7.
εἰρηνεύω; (εἰρήνη);
1. to make peace: 1 Macc. 6:60; Dio Cassius, 77 12, etc.
2. to cultivate or keep peace, i. e. harmony; to be at peace, live in peace: 2 Corinthians 13:11; ἐν ἀλλήλοις, Mark 9:50; ἐν ἑαυτοῖς (T Tr αὐτοῖς), 1 Thessalonians 5:13; μετά τίνος, Romans 12:18; (Plato, Theact., p. 180 b. Dio Cassius, 42, 15, etc.; the Sept.).

For εἰρηνεύω = ";be at peace,"; as in all its occurrences in the NT, cf. the inscr. from Halicarnassus, Brit. Mus. Inscrr. 8948 (time of Augustus) εἰρηνεύο [υσ ]ι μὲν γὰρ γῆ καὶ θάλαττα, a vivid picture of the Pax Romana, and OGIS 613.4 (A.D. 392) καὶ τοὺς διοδεύοντας καὶ τὸ ἔθνος διὰ παντὸς εἰρηνεύεσθαι ἠσφαλίσατο.
