a Roman Catholic divine, was born Dec. 24, 1804, at Parkstetten, in the Upper Palatinate. He studied theology and Oriental languages at Landshut and Munich, and from 1823 until his death (Dec. 30, 1868) he occupied some of the highest positions in his Church. He wrote, Lexicon Manuale Hebraico-Latinum et Chaldaico-biblicum (Munich, 1831): De Identitate Sapienitoe V.T. et Verbi N.T. (ibid. 1829). He also published correct editions of the Roman missal and breviary; but his main work is his Vollstandiges Heiligenlexikon (Augsburg, 1858-68, vol. 1-3, continued by J.N. Ginal).
