a Methodist Episcopal educator, was born at St. Johnsbury, Vermont, May 17, 1826. He graduated from Wesleyan University, Connecticut, in 1852, and immediately engaged in teaching; in 1854 joined the New Hampshire Conference, in 1861 became professor of languages in his alma mater, Land retained that position until his death, February 16, 1886.
