a learned English Presbyterian divine, was born at Warrington, in Lancashire, Feb. 13, 1747. He was educated at the academy at Warrington, and was ordained a preacher in 1769, when he was settled over the congregation at Cockey Moor, near Bolton. Here he labored twelve years with great success. In May, 1780, he removed to Manchester, where he labored as co-pastor of a large and wealthy congregation for thirty years. In 1786, he became principal of an academy at Manchester, but resigned in 1798.
