(ssheh cuh ni' uh) Personal name meaning, “Yahweh has taken up dwelling.” Both long and short forms appear in the Hebrew text. 1. Clan leader (Ezra 8:3 ). 2 . Leader of another clan (Ezra 8:5 ). 3 . Israelite with a foreign wife (Ezra 10:2 ). 4 . Father of man who helped Nehemiah repair Jerusalem wall and keeper of the east gate (Nehemiah 3:29 ). 5 . Father-in-law of Nehemiah's enemy, Tobiah (Nehemiah 6:18 ). 6 . Priest who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel about 537 B.C. (Nehemiah 12:3 ). 7 . Descendant of David and Zerubbabel (1 Chronicles 3:21 ). 8 . Leader of priestly division under David (1 Chronicles 24:11; may be equated with founder of priestly clan of Nehemiah 10:4; Nehemiah 12:14 where spelling is Shebaniah). 9. Priest in time of Hezekiah ( 2 Chronicles 31:15 ).
