Backsliding
Holman Bible Dictionary
Term used by the prophets to describe Israel's faithlessness to God (Isaiah 57:17 RSV; Jeremiah 3:14 ,Jeremiah 3:14,3:22; Jeremiah 8:5; Jeremiah 31:22; Jeremiah 49:4; Hosea 11:7; Hosea 14:4 ). In these passages it is clear that Israel had broken faith with God by serving other gods and by living immoral lives. See Apostasy .
